New Papers and Documents

  • 'The European Constitution in Perspective' Our most recent publication giving a clear and understable analysis of this important new Treaty that will form the primary law fo the European Union - published on 7 December 2004.

    • This book includes the full text of the Treaty as signed by the Heads of Government in Brussels on 29 October 2004, including all of the Protocols and Declarations, with all articles in the text of the Treaty annotated as to either being new or their links to previous treaties given, a detailed 14-page index, tables of equivalences and analyses.   • Business concerns on the Treaty establishing the Constitution for Europe, prepared by the BMDF.

  • Report on one of the recent BMDF Energy Review meetings. This meeting was held to discuss the financing of energy projects.

The BMDF has produced five major publications on the Treaties which form the basis of the European Union.


'The European Constitution in Perspective'

Our most recent publication giving a clear and understandable analysis of this important new Treaty - published on 7 December 2004.


' An Analysis of the Draft Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe '

Our book on the draft Constitution is now out of print and the analyses have been incorporated into 'The European Constitution in Perspective'. See some reviews of our book on the draft Constitution.


' Treaty of Nice in Perspective'

This is in two volumes, providing a detailed analysis of the large number of changes to the existing European treaties introduced by Nice in preparation for enlargement of the European Union.


' The Treaty of Amsterdam in Perspective'

We published the first edition In January 1998. The first edition sold out and we published the second edition of ' The Treaty of Amsterdam in Perspective ' on 1 November 1999.


' The Maastricht Treaty in Perspective '

First published in 1992 (the Third Edition was published in October 1996.

This book is now out of print and the tabulation of the comparison of the Treaties and the BMDF analysis, together with the text of the consolidated Treaties have been incorporated into our book on the Treaty of Amsterdam.









Company Profile

The British Management Data Foundation (BMDF) was formed in 1979. It is an independent body supported by a wide range of major British Companies and is concerned with matters affecting the global competitiveness of its member companies to whom it gives independent advice and data.

The aim of all BMDF activities is to achieve a better understanding of current core issues so as to enable companies and organisations concerned to make more informed decisions.

The Foundation is non-profit-making and limited by guarantee. Funding is primarily by members' subscriptions.

A summary of the meetings held by the BMDF and the papers issued from January 1992 to September 2006 is shown on the attached PDF files.

On the Euro page, there are two essays on the Single Currency. The first paper looks at the stability of Sterling against the US Dollar and includes seven graphs showing the movement of the euro and sterling against the US Dollar.

The second paper is a Summary on Economic and Monetary Union and is an extract from the BMDF book on the Treaty of Amsterdam. This summarises the stages of the formation of the Single Currency and the effects of the Stability and Growth Pact.
